Letter from the General Manager of YEPT
Dear supporters of hoiho
The New Zealand Government has declared the country as Level 4 due to Covid-19, and we are all in lockdown. However, as I write this from my own bubble at home, I wanted to let you all know that the Yellow-eyed Penguin Trust is operating as an essential service.
Only our core work which relates to the survival of the endangered yellow-eyed penguins / hoiho and maintaining animal health and welfare is considered under “essential business”. This core work is being carried out in a reduced capacity by some staff and follows strict protocols.
All other staff are working from home in their own bubbles. Office staff are maintaining the administration of the Trust’s business but the Trust’s plant nursery is closed to further notice.
Following the advice of the World Health Organisation to reduce the risk of infection to staff, we have had to change the way we work. This means that processing of payments may be delayed, and cheques are currently not being processed.
We encourage all our supporters to continue to donate via the online portal on our website EverydayHero page or by direct banking https://www.yellow-eyedpenguin.org.nz/support/support-donate/donations/ and we thank you in advance for this.
We are posting on Facebook during this period, so keep watching for updates about hoiho there.
Stay safe wherever you are in the world and we look forward to being back in ‘normal’ communication with you when we can.
With warm regards
Sue Murray
