Sea Week & Dunedin Coastal Clean-up
In partnership with Our Seas Our Future, Yellow-eyed Penguin Trust staff and volunteers recently took part in the Dunedin Coastal Clean-up as part of our local Sea Week activities.
On a beautiful, sunny Dunedin Saturday, our team gathered at Smaill’s Beach and combed the beach and sand dune area for rubbish.
While the beach was relatively clean, it was disappointing to see so much rubbish in the sand dune area especially surrounding the car parks. Numerous tyres, glass bottles and other plastics were collected, along with some random items including a car seat and many shoes!
It was a fantastic team effort with 3 trucks full of rubbish delivered to the volunteers at St Kilda to sort into recycling and non-recyclable rubbish for landfill.
