2011 planting season
Preparations for the 2011 planting season are well underway at the YEPT Plant Nursery, which is so full it is bursting at the seams. It is time for all those plants to go. Our coastal areas need them to provide shelter and food for penguin and other wildlife. Volunteers have been working hard sorting and weeding our plants so that they are in the very best condition before they leave. It’s a great feeling to be getting rid of the stock and planning the plants for the next year, and here at the nursery we need the space.
Our first planting day is on May 22nd at Tavora, North Otago. Please come and join us as we work on recreating a totara dune – a significant coastal ecosystem. We will also be enhancing the nearby wetland area. This year our work has been generously funded through the Speights Environment Fund. And because conservation is important to Southern Men, there is a rumour that some Highlanders might be there to help out.
So see you there!
